Bootle Streets Going Green

14 December 2007

Streets in the Bedford and Queens neighbourhoods of Bootle are going green in 2008.

Trees will be planted along the front pavements of Bedford Road, Viola Street, Bianca Street, Orlando Street and Olivia Street. Tree planting is also being considered for Benedict Street and Beatrice Street, between Stanley Road and Miranda Road.

Bootle has been chosen to benefit from the tree planting as part of The Mersey Forest's Green Streets project. The tree planting will complement the regeneration of these neighbourhoods as the area undergoes housing market renewal; over £50m public and private investment will benefit residents in these neighbourhoods over the next five years.

The plantings are subject to consultation and the location of underground services. Before full consultation takes place, residents are invited to see the plans on Tuesday, 8 January, 2008 at the Evolve Neighbourhood Centre, Bedford Road, Bootle. The event runs from 3pm - 6pm and residents can drop in at any time during this period.

Green Streets Project Co-ordinator Ben Greenaway told us: This is an opportunity for residents to make choices on the location and type of trees planted and to get involved by watering and planting up around their trees. The trees on offer are small ornamental species that will really brighten up these streets.

The Mersey Forest Green Streets project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, The North West Development Agency and Sefton MBC and is supported by Evolve Neighbourhood Regeneration, Sefton Housing Market Renewal Team and Faiths4Change.
