Stan the Lamb comes to Bootle
16 June 2008
Stan the Lamb is coming to Bootle as part of the exciting Gosuperlambananas '08 project.
Stan, so-called because he will make Stanley Road his home for the next ten weeks, is one of 120 Superlambananas that will appear in Liverpool city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods from 16 June until 25 August. He will be the only Superlambanana to be located in Sefton.
Stan is being brought to Bootle thanks to sponsorship from Evolve Neighbourhood Regeneration and Hugh Baird College. He will be located outside Hugh Baird College on Stanley Road in time for the Gosuperlambananas launch on Monday, 16 June.
Stan's unique design has been created by artist Vinnie Cleghorne after consultation with local people. The design includes portraits of Bootle residents and key words that people have suggested to describe their ideal neighbourhood, including 'clean', 'safer' and 'inclusive'.
Vinnie has been working with Evolve Neighbourhood Regeneration on its Solid Futures arts programme for over a year and recently led residents to transform the underpass on Bedford Road into a vibrant community mural.
A Gosuperlambananas '08 trail guide will be available from Monday, 16 June. The guide maps the location of each sculpture and will be available from Merseytravel outlets, the 08 Place and various other locations.
The original Superlambanana was created ten years ago by artist Taro Chiezo in a studio at the Matchworks in Speke and is currently located on Tithebarn Street in Liverpool city centre.
