Evolve: Neighbourhood Regeneration Through Partnership

Respect Week

18 May 2009

As part of Sefton's Safer and Stronger Communities Partnership the Evolve Neighbourhood Regeneration Partnership are participating in a week long series of events to try and combat some of the main issues residents feel are cause for concern in their neighbourhood.

The Respect Week, which will run in the Hawthorne Road area from Monday 18 May to Saturday 23 May, will tackle issues which matter to local people, as well as offering free activities for young people to get involved in.

The programme has been developed through feedback from residents, who highlighted dog-fouling and the perception of youths hanging around causing annoyance as two of their main issues.

In response to this information, partners including Sefton Council, Merseyside Police, Evolve Neighbourhood Regeneration, One Vision Housing and Merseyside Probation have committed to tackling these issues.

Offenders serving community sentences through the Community Payback scheme will be removing dog fouling and litter, while staff from Sefton's Environmental Department will do a 'deep clean' of the neighbourhood getting rid of fly-tipping and graffiti.

There will be a variety of free activities for young people to get involved in, such as a climbing wall and performing trailer in Derby Park and South Park.

In addition, a free bus will be put on to take youngsters, aged 13-19, to Southport's Dunes SplashWorld for 'Soundwaves' - a music and swimming event. The bus will pick up young people from North Park at 5.45pm. Entry to Soundwaves is £2.
