Good Neighbour Agreement Demands Respect
02 January 2007
Senior figures from the Queens/Bedford, Worcester and Hawthorne neighbourhoods of Bootle signed up to the Evolve Good Neighbour Agreement on Friday, 19 January.
Maria O'Brien, Neighbourhood Director for Evolve, and Elaine Fairclough, Chair of the Evolve Residents' Advisory Panel, were joined by Graham Haywood, Chief Executive of Sefton Borough Council, Chief Superintendent Mark Matthews from Merseyside Police, Alan Carr from Sefton's Anti-Social Behaviour Unit and Jette Burford, Principal of Hugh Baird College, to sign a special copy of the agreement at the Evolve Neighbourhood Centre.
The Evolve Residents' Advisory Panel created the Good Neighbour Agreement as part of their wider campaign to encourage a safe and friendly neighbourhood in which anti-social behaviour is not tolerated, reflecting the government's 'respect' agenda.
Maria O'Brien, Neighbourhood Director for Evolve, told us: "The Good Neighbour Agreement sets a marker that this area is changing and is for everyone who is part of our neighbourhood. The community expects us all to contribute to a culture of mutual respect if the regeneration of this area is to be sustainable."
Chief Superintendent Mark Matthews, said: "This is a fantastic piece of work and I really do support it."
Jette Burford, Principal of Hugh Baird College, added: "We are happy to support this agreement and assist the community in promoting Bootle as a great place to work, live and of course, study."
The Good Neighbour Agreement sets out the responsibilities that both residents and regeneration partners have in making the area a better place to live for everyone. Local residents, businesses, schools and colleges will be encouraged to sign a copy of the agreement as a commitment to their neighbourhood.
