Evolve: Neighbourhood Regeneration Through Partnership

News Stories

Arts base for Bootle residents

03 April 2007

Local people are involved in an exciting arts project for Bootle.

Evolve Neighbourhood Regeneration is managing a base for artists Vinnie Cleghorne, Sam Hatton and Debbie Ryan at 45 Stanley Road.

Residents can drop into the centre on Tuesdays and Fridays between 12pm - 6pm and work with Vinnie, Sam and Debbie on painting, film and mosaic projects.

The artists are already working with local schoolchildren, students from Hugh Baird College, community centres and community groups. Previous experience of art is not needed and everyone is welcome.

The project is part of Solid Futures, an arts programme developed by PLUS Housing Group in partnership with Merseyside pathfinder organisation NewHeartlands. Solid Futures works in areas that are undergoing regeneration, and encourages people to think about what their neighbourhood means to them and what their hopes are for the future.

The Bootle arts base is supported by Sefton MBC and Housing Market Renewals Living Through Change fund. Over the last two years, Solid Futures has worked with residents across Merseyside and exhibited in the Liverpool Independents Biennial, attracting over 600 visitors.

Lisa Cover, project officer for Evolve, told us: "Evolve works with local people to give them a real say in the future of their neighbourhood. This project is an exciting way for people to get involved, try something new and learn more about the positive changes happening in this area."

The use of 45 Stanley Road has been donated by lead developer Keepmoat.
